Last Tuesday, the official launch of the Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Bees took place at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden.

The bee collective labor agreement is an initiative of Bee in Balance in collaboration with the Animal Trade Union. The collective labor agreement contains agreements regarding, among other things, housing, working conditions and the remuneration that bees receive for the work they perform.

Bijenkasten.nl is a loyal partner of Bee in Balance and that is why we were present at the launch. We also endorse the collective labor agreement and signed it on April 19, 2022. We support this initiative because it is essential that the bee and its natural habitat deserve more attention. The collective labor agreement is comparable to any other collective labor agreement and covers, among other things, illness, absenteeism, free time, work, pension and housing.

If there is sufficient food available on a (company) site and/or building for both solitary bees and honey bees, housing for honey bees will be installed in accordance with the collective labor agreement. This housing comes from Bijenkasten.nl. To create ideal conditions for the bee, it is important that this housing is made of natural materials such as red cedar or modified (baked) wood. We make these cabinets in our workshop in Utrecht and are now spread throughout the Netherlands. Our beehives are expertly produced and precisely finished so that the hives are free of splinters and other materials that could potentially damage the bees. In addition, we always recommend using natural oils and water-based substances for hive maintenance. Our bee hives have a unique corner connection that prevents water from entering and a roof including three centimeters of polystyrene for optimal ventilation and insulation.
